Here's a couple of nice photos Dad took when he borrowed the bug last week. Think he enjoyed himself!

I cleaned up the Kamei chin spoiler I bought on ebay over the weekend and plan to fit that this week.

New Brakes

Sorry, it's been a little while since updating. The new beetle passed it's MOT without any trouble and so the cabrio is back to being a dry weather plaything.

I invested in a carb balancer and used it to great effect synchronising the carbs it runs much better and smoother now. However there is still something not quite right as I cannot adjust out a bit of a flat spot at low throttle low rpm (such as pootling along at 30mph) with the mixture screws, and one carb is definately more adjustable than the other. In fact one has it's throttle stop screw adjusted so as not to touch the butterfly arm at all and yet it still draws more air than I think it should and hence it's a struggle to get the idle low enough without screwing in the mixture screws too far. I am wondering whether the cold start mechanism is leaking air or something so will investigate blanking them off.

Also after a trip out to Hanbury Steam Rally over bumpy roads with 4 people in the car I decided that something had to be done with the brakes and to raise the ride height at the back. So I ordered a drilled disk kit from Machine7 after emailing for useful advice and have now fitted that. The pads are still bedding in, and I think I may need to adjust and bleed the rears again, but they are already much better than before and inspire much more confidence. In any case I now think that the new master cylinder I fitted is now compatible with an all-drum setup which may help explain the problems.

I have also fitted new tyres on the rear, changing from 185/55R15 to 195/65R15 which has raised the back up a bit. Hopefully enough to stop the exhaust and deep sump from bottoming out! I also got the tracking done while I was at it and tramlining is much less now.
